Insights & Takeaways from the 2025 National Scholarship Providers Association Conference
By Niakesha Hollins | Executive Director, Scholarship Education Outreach | October 2025 | Atlanta, GA
I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend – and present for the first time – at the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA) Conference 2025 in Atlanta, GA. Over three days, I joined more than 700 passionate professionals dedicated to advancing college access and student success.
Grateful doesn’t begin to describe how I feel – from the connections made to the powerful conversations and the inspiration gained from the incredible work happening across the scholarship and higher education space.
Key Takeaway: Mentorship Matters
One session that left a lasting impression was presented by representatives from the Evans Scholars Program, Dell Scholars Program, and Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Each organization shared a common theme:
Scholarships that don’t stop at funding – they go beyond by integrating high-quality mentorship.
These programs have demonstrated that when mentorship complements financial support, the results are transformative. They foster meaningful connections, focus on life and professional skill development, and equip scholars with the confidence and readiness to excel in their careers.
Why Mentorship + Scholarship = Long-Term Success
I left reflecting deeply on this:
What if every scholar, in addition to receiving scholarship support, also received career mentorship?
What could that mean for their career outcomes, economic mobility, and workforce development?
These programs are living proof that combining scholarships with mentorship strengthens both student success and community impact.
What’s Working Now
From these organizations, I learned key strategies driving measurable success:
- Leveraging technology and AI platforms to provide feedback and prepare scholars for modern applicant tracking systems.
- Collaboration between career and retention advisors to align student development goals.
- Employer partnerships focused on connecting scholars with real-world opportunities.
- Early career readiness initiatives ensure students gain professional experiences before graduation.
Equally important were the candid discussions around growth areas – recognizing that mentorship programs must evolve to meet the changing needs of scholars and employers alike.
Moving Forward
This conference didn’t just provide knowledge – it sparked action. I’m eager to explore how Scholarship Education Outreach can build a mentoring framework that amplifies scholarship support with career readiness tools, ensuring that students aren’t just prepared for college – they’re prepared for life.
Thank You
To everyone I met at #NSPA2025 – thank you for the inspiration, collaboration, and shared commitment to empowering students. Here’s to creating pathways that transform access into achievement and scholarships into lifelong success stories.
A few memorable moments captured.
